Skills Retreat Weekend at Silver Lake Mennonite Camp, June 20-22, 2014 : Learn how to build a backyard, wood-fired bread oven! Sessions will be led by experienced oven builders Alfred Rempel & Tim Dyck. Food will be prepared by John Bergen of City Café Bakeries using a wood-fired oven. Paul Born, executive director of Tamarack Institute and author of Deepening Community along with Will Winterfeld will lead an evening discussion on using wood-fired ovens and other projects as tools for developing and deepening community in our neighbourhoods, towns and cities. June 20th marks World Refugee Day, when the entire international community celebrates the stories, the perseverance, and the contributions of refugees. Walking four kilometers in the shoes of refugees, we will visit important locations in KW, hear about what caused them to flee, about life in the land that has welcomed them...and their aspirations for the future.
